![]() June 5 – September 19, 2009 Ravinia began in 1904, making it the oldest summer music festival in North America. Presenting more than 120 different events each season, including the summer residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, it is also one of the world's most diverse festivals. UBS joins the Festival in its mission of making music at the highest possible level. In a history rich with great conductors, guest artists, and distinctive programming, Ravinia has been a mecca for artists from George Gershwin to Louis Armstrong to Yo-Yo Ma and for a loyal audience that enjoys the sounds of summer year after year. The 2009 Ravinia Festival will include five major projects in genres ranging from jazz to film to dance in celebration of the Lincoln Bicentennial, including the world premiere of the Bill T. Jones dance-theater work Fondly Do We Hope…Fervently Do We Pray, which concludes the season. The 73rd annual summer residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra features concerts including the 10th anniversary of Lang Lang’s launch to stardom, the post-Gypsy reunion of Patti LuPone and the CSO, and Music Director James Conlon conducting Rigoletto in concert. Throughout the 2009 Festival, Ravinia will host more than 135 guest artists and ensembles and 45 classical music events. UBS is the Lead Sponsor of the Ravinia Festival. ![]() |
